"Forensic Science Key to Justice in Modern Times": CM Dr. Manik Saha

In a strong pitch for enhancing forensic capabilities in India, Tripura Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha on Saturday called for greater investment in forensic science education and infrastructure, emphasizing its crucial role in modern criminal investigations.

Speaking at the 2nd International and 22nd National Conference of the Indian Association of Forensic Odontology, held at the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU), Gandhinagar, CM Saha addressed a distinguished audience of forensic experts, academicians, and delegates from across India and abroad.

“With changing times, the nature of crime is also evolving. To ensure effective investigation, it is imperative to strengthen our pool of forensic experts and upgrade the required infrastructure,” said Dr. Saha.

He underlined the significance of forensic odontology—the use of dental science in legal investigations—as a vital tool in delivering justice, especially in cases involving unidentified victims or bite mark analysis.

In a noteworthy announcement, the Chief Minister urged the NFSU leadership to introduce a two-year MDS course in Forensic Odontology at NFSU's Tripura campus, aiming to expand academic and professional opportunities in the North-Eastern region.

“Introducing this course at NFSU Tripura will build much-needed expertise in the region and open new avenues for students and professionals,” he said.

The international conference brought together thought leaders, researchers, and law enforcement professionals to discuss innovations, best practices, and future pathways in forensic odontology. The event highlighted India’s growing emphasis on scientific methods to support its criminal justice system.

Dr. Saha’s remarks were met with appreciation from the academic and scientific communities, who welcomed his vision for decentralizing forensic education and strengthening regional capacities.
