CM Dr. Manik saha inaugurates 14 Projects, lays foundation stone for 5


Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha inaugurated 14 new projects and laid the foundation stone for 5 women’s hostels under the Department of Social Welfare and Social Education during a virtual ceremony held at Rabindra Satbarshiki Bhavan on Monday.

Addressing the event, the Chief Minister emphasized the government's focus on nutrition, healthcare, and early childhood education for future generations, stating, "They are the catalysts who will lead our state and nation forward in the coming days."

He further added that Tripura ranks 5th nationally and 1st among the northeastern states in preparing developmental roadmaps aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to transform India into a fully developed nation by 2047.

The government is investing nearly Rs 61 crore in the newly inaugurated and foundation-laid projects, which include: 9 new Anganwadi centres across subdivisions in West Tripura,  2 recreational parks at Child Care Institutions in Narsingarh and Abhoynagar, After-Care Home for girls in Abhoynagar, Specialised Adoption Agency and Child Care Institute for orphans, 5 working women’s hostels in Abhoynagar, AD Nagar, Bodhjungnagar, Sarum, and Belonia,  50-bed boys' hostel at Agartala DIET (District Institute of Education and Training), built at a cost of  Rs 1.84 crore.

The hostels for working women, each estimated to cost Rs 11.40 crore, will feature state-of-the-art facilities including gyms, recreational centers, play areas, and childcare support systems.

The Chief Minister also revealed that since the beginning of this year, projects worth around Rs 800 crore have either been inaugurated or had foundation stones laid.

In a significant step towards digital governance and real-time data collection, the CM also launched a distribution initiative for 11,130 smartphones to Anganwadi workers and ICDS supervisors under the POSHAN Abhiyaan. The central government-supported program involves a financial outlay of  Rs 12.89 crore.

CM Manik Saha highlighted several achievements of the Social Welfare and Social Education Department: 4 lakh beneficiaries currently receiving social pensions, One Stop Centres operational in every district – 261 women supported so far, Under PM Matru Vandana Yojana, Rs 74 crore disbursed to 1,45,806 pregnant and lactating mothers, CM Matri Pushti Uphaar Scheme provided Rs 8.73 crore to 43,664 mothers, 9,188 children supported under POSHAN Abhiyaan and 1,402 Anganwadi workers and 1,615 helpers recruited since April 1, 2023.

Social Welfare and Social Education Minister Tinku Roy, who also addressed the event, noted that the department supports citizens "from birth to death." Currently, Tripura has 10,275 Anganwadi centres, with 2.82 lakh children aged 0–6 years enrolled.

The minister also announced: Plan to open 345 new Anganwadi centres, Conversion of 100 centres to English-medium operations, 101 Anganwadi workers promoted to supervisor positions and Festive allowances increased – Puja bonus raised to ₹2,310; one-time mobile bill assistance of ₹2,000 and ₹1,000 for sarees to be credited before Durga Puja.

As part of the ceremony, symbolic POSHAN kits and smartphones were handed over to select beneficiaries and Anganwadi workers. A short documentary film showcasing various initiatives of the department was also screened.
