IAF Leads Massive Relief Ops in North India as Floodwaters Recede
Sep 07, 2025
As the floodwaters begin to recede across northern India, large-scale relief and rescue operations continue in full swing in Punjab, Jammu & Kashmir, and Himachal Pradesh, with the Indian Air Force (IAF) playing a pivotal role in reaching stranded civilians and delivering critical supplies.
According to a statement issued by the Western Air Command, IAF helicopters have airlifted 541 people from the Bharmour-Chamba region and transported over 10,000 kilograms of essential relief materials to flood- and landslide-hit areas in Kullu and Kishtwar.
A total of four helicopters and 35 crew members have been deployed, working tirelessly in difficult terrain and unpredictable weather to provide life-saving aid. Relief items include food, medicines, and other vital supplies, delivered to areas cut off due to washed-out roads and persistent landslides.
"The IAF has assets positioned for follow-up tasks, reflecting our unwavering commitment to humanitarian assistance and disaster relief," the Western Air Command said in a social media update.
Although flood levels have started to decline, officials warn that the aftermath—especially in landslide-prone regions—continues to pose serious challenges. Many remote villages remain inaccessible by road, making aerial operations the only viable lifeline for affected populations.
