UK Bars Israeli Officials from London Arms Fair Amid Gaza Conflict; Israel Withdraws Official Participation

In a significant diplomatic move, the United Kingdom has barred Israeli government officials from attending the upcoming Defence and Security Equipment International (DSEI) arms fair, citing growing tensions over Israel’s ongoing military operations in Gaza.

The UK Ministry of Defence confirmed in a statement that no Israeli government delegation will be invited to the event, which is scheduled to take place in London from September 9 to 12. DSEI is regarded as one of the world’s largest and most influential arms trade exhibitions, attracting delegations and defense companies from across the globe.

The decision comes amid a sharp deterioration in UK-Israel relations, following Britain’s suspension of certain arms export licences to Israel, the freezing of free trade agreement negotiations, and the imposition of sanctions on two Israeli ministers due to their conduct during the Gaza conflict.

In response, Israel’s Ministry of Defense announced it will not officially participate in the event, calling the UK’s move “harmful and disgraceful,” and accusing London of deliberately targeting Israeli representatives. As a result, Israel will not set up a national pavilion at DSEI 2025.

However, the ministry added that Israeli defense companies choosing to participate independently would still receive the full support of the Israeli Defense Ministry.

The exclusion of Israeli officials from such a high-profile international defense event highlights the growing political and diplomatic fallout over the conflict in Gaza. It also marks a rare public rift between the UK and Israel, traditionally close allies in defense and security matters.
