Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty Storm into Semifinals of BWF World Championships, Assure India a Medal

India’s star men’s doubles duo, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, have advanced to the semifinals of the BWF World Championships 2025 in Paris, securing at least a bronze medal for the country.

The world No. 9 pair delivered a commanding performance in the quarterfinals, defeating second-seeded Malaysians Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik in straight games, 21-12, 21-19. This victory not only propels them into the last four but also ensures India’s continued medal streak at the prestigious tournament, which dates back to 2011.

This will be Satwik and Chirag’s second World Championships medal, having previously won a bronze in the 2022 edition held in Tokyo.

The Indian pair will now face the Chinese duo of Li Yiu and Bo Yang Chen, ranked 11th in the world, in the semifinals later today.

Meanwhile, India’s campaign in other categories faced setbacks. Two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu fell short in her pursuit of a sixth World Championships medal, going down to Indonesia’s Putri Kusuma Wardani in a hard-fought three-game encounter (14-21, 21-13, 16-21) in the pre-quarterfinals.

India's mixed doubles hopes also ended in the quarterfinals, with Tanisha Crasto and Dhruv Kapila bowing out after a spirited run.

With Satwik and Chirag’s stellar performance, India’s medal hopes now rest on their shoulders as the duo aims to surpass their previous best and reach the final of the world’s premier badminton event.
