In a significant push towards sustainable agriculture and rural empowerment, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Thursday inaugurated the National Workshop on Integrated Farming Cluster (IFC) for North Eastern States in Agartala. The event saw participation from key stakeholders across the region, including government officials, agricultural experts, and representatives of Self-Help Groups (SHGs).
Addressing the delegates, Dr. Saha underscored agriculture’s role as the backbone of India’s economy and a vital source of livelihood for millions in rural areas. He emphasized that empowering SHG women, or “SHG Didis,” through integrated farming practices is a critical step toward rural prosperity.
“In alignment with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision, the Integrated Farming Cluster approach has been introduced to strengthen the livelihood of rural households through convergence, innovation, and sustainability in agriculture,” said the Chief Minister.
Dr. Saha announced that Tripura has already launched activities across 80 Integrated Farming Clusters, with an investment of Rs 32 crore. These clusters aim to promote diversified farming systems, improve productivity, and create new income-generating opportunities for farmers.
The initiative is expected to play a key role in addressing rural distress, enhancing food security, and supporting inclusive growth in the North Eastern region.
The workshop also featured technical sessions and experience-sharing by field-level implementers, aimed at fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange among the participating states.
