PM Modi flags Off ‘E-Vitara’, inaugurates hybrid battery electrode Plant in Gujarat

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday flagged off the Made-in-India electric vehicle ‘E-Vitara’ from Suzuki Motor’s manufacturing facility in Hansalpur, Gujarat. The battery electric vehicles (BEVs), developed under the ‘Make in India’ initiative, will be exported to more than 100 countries, including key global markets such as Europe and Japan.

During his two-day visit to Gujarat, the Prime Minister also inaugurated the production of hybrid battery electrodes at the TDS Lithium-Ion Battery Plant in Hansalpur. The facility is a joint venture between Japanese companies Toshiba, Denso, and Suzuki, and is expected to significantly strengthen India’s domestic battery manufacturing capabilities. With this development, over 80% of the battery’s value will now be manufactured within India.

Describing the occasion as a "special day in India’s quest for self-reliance and green mobility," Prime Minister Modi said the launch marks a significant milestone in the country's ambition to become a global hub for electric vehicles and clean energy technologies.

"This is a new chapter in India’s ‘Make in India’ journey," said the Prime Minister. "These initiatives will not only boost the country's battery ecosystem but also reflect India’s growing capabilities in sustainable and innovative manufacturing."

The Prime Minister also visited an exhibition at the Suzuki Motor plant and emphasized the strategic importance of India's partnership with Japan. He praised companies like Maruti Suzuki for becoming global brand ambassadors of Indian manufacturing.

Highlighting India’s key strengths—its democratic values, demographic advantage, and skilled workforce—PM Modi stated that the country offers a "win-win situation" for all international partners looking to invest in sustainable industries.
