PM Modi holds bilateral talks with Fijian Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka in New Delhi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday held comprehensive talks with his Fijian counterpart, Sitiveni Ligamamada Rabuka, in New Delhi, aimed at strengthening bilateral ties and enhancing cooperation in key areas including healthcare, development, and climate resilience.

Prime Minister Rabuka arrived in India on Sunday for a three-day official visit, accompanied by a high-level delegation that includes Fiji’s Minister of Health and Medical Services, Ratu Atonio Lalabalavu, and other senior officials.

During the meeting, the two leaders discussed a wide range of issues of mutual interest, with a strong focus on deepening development partnerships, expanding people-to-people exchanges, and promoting collaboration in the fields of health, education, and capacity-building.

“Fiji is an important partner in India’s Act East and Indo-Pacific policies,” said Prime Minister Modi, emphasizing the historical and cultural ties shared by the two nations, particularly due to the presence of a significant Indian diaspora in Fiji.

The leaders also reaffirmed their commitment to addressing shared global challenges, including climate change and sustainable development. Both sides agreed to explore opportunities for enhanced cooperation through regional and multilateral forums.

Prime Minister Rabuka’s visit comes at a time when India is actively engaging with Pacific Island nations to bolster its outreach and development cooperation in the region.

This visit is expected to pave the way for new initiatives and stronger strategic engagement between India and Fiji, reinforcing their long-standing relationship based on mutual respect and shared democratic values.
