CM Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurates 50MT waste-to-compost Plant in Margherita

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday inaugurated a 50 metric tonne (MT) capacity Material Recovery and Waste-to-Compost Plant in Margherita. The facility aims to efficiently process the town’s municipal waste and convert it into compost and reusable materials, contributing to the government’s larger vision of sustainable waste management.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister emphasized the importance of waste-to-wealth initiatives in ensuring clean and healthy environments, particularly in smaller towns and semi-urban areas.

“We are building such centres across small towns and cities to improve sanitation in the building blocks of our State. These projects not only support cleanliness and environmental sustainability but also create local employment opportunities,” said Sarma.

The newly inaugurated plant is expected to significantly enhance solid waste management capabilities in Margherita, reducing landfill dependency while promoting organic compost production.
