In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, a joint operation conducted by the Assam Rifles and the Customs Department led to the seizure of a significant consignment of methamphetamine tablets in Tripura on Thursday.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs, the joint team intercepted a Maruti Suzuki WagonR bearing registration number TR 04 F 0698. Upon conducting a thorough search of the vehicle, authorities discovered 20,000 methamphetamine tablets, packed in two large packets and weighing approximately 2 kilograms. The seized narcotics are estimated to be worth around Rs 2 crore in the international market.
During the operation, four individuals, including the vehicle's driver, were apprehended on the spot. The accused, along with the seized contraband, were handed over to the Customs Department for further investigation and legal proceedings.
Officials described the bust as a major success in ongoing efforts to combat the trafficking of illegal narcotics through India’s northeastern states. The region’s proximity to international borders has made it a vulnerable transit point for drug smuggling, prompting heightened surveillance and joint enforcement efforts.
