Minister Ratan Lal Nath felicitates Madhyamik, HS pass out students in Mohanpur

Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath today stressed that true education must go beyond degrees and produce responsible, self-reliant human beings.

Speaking at a felicitation programme for Madhyamik and Higher Secondary pass-out students in Mohanpur Assembly Constituency, Nath highlighted the importance of extracurricular activities alongside formal learning.

“Students must acquire knowledge of English and Science to become skill-oriented. Even without a formal job, one should have the ability to earn. Swami Vivekananda also emphasized this,” Nath said.

He recalled that during his own student life, Mohanpur had only one school up to Class 8, and further education required travelling to Agartala. “Today, with better infrastructure, students must make the best use of opportunities,” he added.

Underscoring the role of women’s education, the Minister said, “If girls are educated, they can overcome challenges on their own. Swami ji also said that women should learn something to earn their livelihood. Only then will society progress.”

Nath further pointed out that India is now competing in a global “knowledge race” and the New Education Policy has positioned the country for transformation.

“A student may become a doctor, engineer or administrator, but without values, compassion and self-reliance, education loses its meaning,” he remarked. “All power lies within you. Real education means standing on your own feet, blending degrees with character and extracurricular growth.”
