Tripura Boosts Railway Connectivity with Electrification of Key Sub-Stations

Tripura has made a significant leap in modernizing its railway infrastructure with the successful electrification of two key traction sub-stations, marking a crucial step toward the introduction of electric train services in the state.
Power supply to the Teliamura traction sub-station in Khowai district was commissioned recently, a day after the Udaipur traction sub-station in Gomati district became operational. These developments are part of a broader initiative by the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) to phase out diesel-powered trains and transition to electric rail services across the region.
The electrification project is expected to significantly enhance the efficiency and reliability of train operations in Tripura. With the Teliamura sub-station now fully functional, the Teliamura railway station is prepared to support electrified train services.
“The implementation of this project will not only ensure smoother railway operations but also improve power supply stability in Teliamura and nearby areas, benefiting both daily commuters and residents,” said Biswajit Bose, Managing Director of the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL).
The move aligns with the Central Government’s nationwide push for electrified railway connectivity aimed at reducing operational costs, cutting carbon emissions, and promoting sustainable development.
Senior officials, including TSECL Deputy General Manager Kamal Krishna Das, Senior Manager Utpal Kar, and Railway Official P.C. Meena, were present during the commissioning of the Teliamura sub-station.
With these advancements, Tripura edges closer to a cleaner and more efficient railway network, reinforcing its role in India's mission for greener transportation.
