In a significant step towards strengthening the sports ecosystem in Assam, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday inaugurated two new residential sports academies at Uttar Fulung in North Guwahati. The newly established institutions — the GTC Football Academy and the ACA Cricket Academy — are aimed at nurturing young talent and promoting excellence in sports across the state.
Addressing the gathering at the inauguration ceremony, Chief Minister Sarma highlighted the state government’s vision for sports development. “Assam has a lot of good infrastructure when it comes to sports, but our goal isn’t just building infrastructure; it is about creating talent,” he said.
The Chief Minister stressed that in order to produce world-class athletes, there is a need for world-class facilities. “That’s exactly what we are doing here in Assam — ensuring the best infrastructure and training in every district,” he added.
The launch of these academies is part of Assam’s broader initiative to invest in youth and sports, with a focus on identifying and grooming talent at the grassroots level. Both academies will offer state-of-the-art residential training facilities, professional coaching, and support systems essential for the holistic development of athletes.
