Tripura observes 'Partition Horrors Remembrance Day'; CM Dr. Manik Saha emphasizes lessons for youth

Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha on Thursday attended the state-level observance of Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, organized by the Higher Education Department at Rabindra Hall, Maharaja Bir Bikram College. The event aimed to reflect on the tragic events surrounding the partition of India in 1947 and to educate the younger generation about its lasting impact.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Saha described the partition as “a painful scar on the body of an independent nation,” highlighting the immense suffering endured by millions who were uprooted from their homes and became refugees in their own country.
“The cries of millions echoed through the skies and air of India. It is our duty to ensure the new generation understands this dark chapter of our history,” said Dr. Saha. He also criticized the political motivations behind the partition, stating, “The then-ruling powers, driven by the two-nation theory, divided the nation for their own interests.”
The Chief Minister stressed the importance of national unity and urged students and youth to draw lessons from the past to build a stronger, more inclusive future.
Several key dignitaries were present at the event, including Minister of Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Transport and Tourism Sushanta Chowdhury, and Minister of Panchayat Department, Higher Education, and General Administration (Political) Kishor Barman.
The observance included speeches, presentations, and cultural performances dedicated to the memory of those who lost their lives and livelihoods during the partition. The program served as a poignant reminder of the human cost of division and the importance of preserving harmony and unity in society.
