CM Dr. Manik Saha launches 'Bell of Awareness' Campaign to Combat Substance Abuse in Schools

In a proactive step to curb substance abuse among adolescents and raise awareness about its link to HIV/AIDS, the Government of Tripura has launched a state-wide school awareness campaign titled ‘Bell of Awareness’.
The initiative was officially inaugurated by Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Tuesday at Pragya Bhavan, in the presence of officials, educators, and students. The program is a joint effort by the School Education Department and the Tripura AIDS Control Society under the Department of Health.
Targeting over 2.31 lakh students from Classes 8 to 12, the campaign is being conducted simultaneously in 6,000 classrooms across 1,187 schools in the state. The program seeks to educate students about the harmful effects of drug and substance abuse, and its dangerous connection to the spread of HIV/AIDS.
Speaking at the event, Chief Minister Dr. Saha stressed the urgent need for awareness and early intervention among school-going children. “Substance abuse is not just a health issue, it is a social challenge that puts the future of our youth at risk. Through this initiative, we aim to empower students with knowledge so they can make the right choices,” he said while addressing students across the state.
The launch also marked the beginning of the Intensified IEC (Information, Education, and Communication) Campaign, designed to support the initiative with sustained educational outreach and awareness drives across schools and communities.
