Centre approves Rs 250 Cr development package for Tribals in Tripura

In a significant move towards promoting inclusive development and strengthening peace in the North Eastern region, the Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved a Rs 250 crore package aimed at the socio-economic development of tribal communities in Tripura.

This allocation comes under a new component of the existing Special Development Package for Tripura and is part of the government’s efforts to implement the Memorandum of Settlement (MoS) signed with the National Liberation Front of Twipra (NLFT) and the All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF) — two former insurgent groups from the state.

The initiative seeks to uplift vulnerable and marginalised tribal groups in Tripura who have not adequately benefited from earlier government welfare schemes. The comprehensive development plan focuses on: Improving health services and education, Enhancing employment and livelihood opportunities, Promoting skill development, particularly among youth and women, Encouraging income-generating activities to ensure sustainable growth and Promoting Tourism and Regional Integration.

A key objective of the package is to increase tourist inflow to Tripura and the broader North Eastern region. By promoting the state's rich cultural heritage and natural beauty, the government aims to create new employment opportunities and stimulate the local economy.

The approval of this development package reflects the Centre’s ongoing commitment to restoring peace, fostering economic growth, and ensuring the integration of formerly insurgency-affected regions into the national mainstream.
