CM Dr. Manik Saha pays tribute to Rabindranath Tagore on his death anniversary

On the occasion of the death anniversary of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore, Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha emphasized the importance of spreading the poet's literary brilliance, patriotism, and philosophical ideals among the younger generation. He said that Tagore’s thoughts are deeply embedded in every sphere of Indian society and culture.

Speaking at a tribute ceremony organized at Muktadhara Auditorium by the Department of Information and Cultural Affairs, the Chief Minister stated, “Rabindranath Tagore was a multi-faceted genius—poet, novelist, dramatist, artist, and social reformer. Though he left his mortal body, his creations continue to guide us like a pole star. His ideals provide direction even in times of crisis.”

Dr. Saha recalled Tagore’s historic Nobel Prize in Literature in 1913, which brought immense pride to the nation. He also highlighted Tagore’s role in establishing institutions like Visva-Bharati to promote Indian philosophy and education rooted in Indian ethos. “Even as a child, Tagore’s talent was extraordinary. He authored 52 poetry collections, 13 novels, 95 short stories, and 38 plays, which are still widely read and loved,” he added.

The Chief Minister also referred to Tagore’s protest against the 1905 Partition of Bengal, where he initiated the Rakhi Bandhan festival to inspire unity among Indians.

Highlighting the government's commitment to preserving Tripura’s rich cultural heritage, Dr. Saha informed that the Department of Information and Cultural Affairs has been actively promoting traditional art forms. A new cultural calendar has been introduced this year, adding 19 more cultural activities. The department is also focusing on the revival and development of traditional puppetry, Jatra (folk theatre), and drama.

Secretary of the Department of Information and Cultural Affairs Dr. P. K. Chakraborty,  Vice Chairman of the State Cultural Advisory Committee, Subrata Chakraborty, and Director of ICA department, Bimbisar Bhattacharya, were also present.
