Incessant rainfall over the past 24 hours has severely disrupted normal life in Sikkim, triggering landslides and causing the Teesta River to swell dangerously.
Due to continuous downpours, the Teesta is currently in spate, prompting concerns about flooding in the surrounding areas. Several landslides have been reported across the state, particularly affecting road connectivity and hampering the movement of people and vehicles.
Traffic on National Highway 10 (NH-10) — the key route linking Gangtok with Siliguri and other major towns — has been partially disrupted due to landslides and waterlogging. Large stretches of the highway are covered with debris, making travel unsafe.
Authorities have issued an advisory, urging commuters and tourists to exercise caution while travelling through affected areas. Emergency response teams have been deployed, and local officials are closely monitoring the situation.
