Indian athlete Tejaswin Shankar set a new national record in the decathlon, scoring 7,826 points at the Wieslaw Czapiewski Memorial 2025 athletics meet in Poland on Sunday. The 26-year-old finished fourth overall, surpassing his previous best of 7,666 points, which earned him a silver medal at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou.
The event was won by Ondrej Kopecky of Czechia, who delivered a dominant performance to set a new meet record with 8,254 points. Fellow Czech athlete Vilem Strasky secured second place, while Risto Lillemets of Estonia finished third.
This marks the second time Shankar has broken the national decathlon record, reaffirming his remarkable transition from high jump specialist to one of India’s most promising all-round athletes. Known for his early success in high jump, including a bronze medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, Shankar has steadily evolved into a world-class decathlete.
