In a major drug bust, police from East Agartala Police Station recovered heroin worth approximately Rs 10 lakh from two women near Bonkumari Market on Sunday evening. The operation was conducted based on secret information received by law enforcement.
Briefing the media persons, SP West Tripura Dr. Kiran Kumar on Monday he stated that the two women were apprehended during a targeted operation and are currently in police custody for further questioning. During the operation police recovered 97.5 grams of heroin packed in nine soap cases from their possession. The arrested women have been identified as Rosna Begum resident of Bishalgarh and Polsum Begum resident of Madhupur. “This is part of our continued efforts to combat the drug menace in Tripura. The police acted swiftly and efficiently on credible intelligence,” said Dr. Kumar.
A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Police officials are investigating whether the accused are linked to a larger drug trafficking network operating in the region.
