Balaji Telefilms clarifies Ekta Kapoor’s disassociation from ALTT after Government bans 24 OTT platforms
Jul 26, 2025
In response to the Indian government's recent ban on 24 OTT platforms for allegedly disseminating vulgar and explicit content, Balaji Telefilms Limited has issued an official statement clarifying that producer Ekta Kapoor and her mother Shobha Kapoor are no longer associated with ALTT, formerly known as ALTBalaji.
Amid media reports linking the Kapoors to ALTT—one of the platforms affected by the government’s crackdown—Balaji Telefilms has firmly denied any ongoing involvement of the duo with the platform.
In its statement released on July 26, the company said, “Contrary to such reports, Ms. Ekta Kapoor and Mrs. Shobha Kapoor are not associated in any capacity whatsoever with ALTT.” The statement added that both had officially stepped down from their roles in June 2021.
Balaji Telefilms further clarified that it is a professionally managed media organization, publicly listed on both the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE). The company confirmed that ALTT is now fully operated by Balaji Telefilms, following the court-approved merger of ALT Digital Media Entertainment Ltd. with the parent company on June 20, 2025.
The clarification comes in the wake of heightened scrutiny over digital streaming platforms, as the government intensifies its efforts to regulate online content and enforce decency standards across OTT services.
