Assam Governor Pays Homage to Kargil War Heroes at State War Memorial

Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya paid solemn tribute to the fallen heroes of the Kargil War during a Wreath Laying and Commemorative Ceremony held at the State War Memorial in Guwahati on Saturday.

The event marked Kargil Vijay Diwas, commemorating India’s victory over Pakistani intruders in the 1999 Kargil conflict and honouring the bravery and sacrifice of the Indian armed forces. Governor Acharya laid a wreath at the memorial and observed a moment of silence in memory of the soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Governor expressed deep gratitude for the courage and dedication displayed by the armed forces. He lauded their patriotism, valour, and unwavering commitment to safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty.

“Our brave soldiers displayed extraordinary courage in the face of adversity. Their sacrifice is a shining example of devotion to duty, and the nation will remain forever indebted to them,” Governor Acharya said.

The ceremony was attended by senior military officials, state government representatives, war veterans, and family members of the Kargil martyrs. Floral tributes, patriotic songs, and a ceremonial guard of honour added to the solemnity of the occasion.

Kargil Vijay Diwas is observed annually across India to remember and honour the sacrifices made by Indian soldiers during Operation Vijay, which culminated in a decisive victory for India in July 1999.
