Indian markets end low for second consecutive session amid mixed global cues

Equity benchmark indices, the Sensex and Nifty, closed in the red for a second consecutive session on Friday, weighed down by mixed global cues. Investor sentiment remained subdued, amid continued selling by foreign institutional investors and lingering global trade uncertainties.
The 30-share BSE Sensex tumbled 721 points, or 0.90 percent, to close at 81,463. The NSE Nifty 50 also slipped sharply, losing 225 points, or 0.90 percent, to end the session at 24,837.
The broader market indices at the BSE closed lower. The Mid-Cap index decreased about one and half per cent and Small-Cap index fell 1.90 a per cent.
In the Sensex pack, 28 out of 30 companies ended in negative territory. Among the top laggards, Bajaj Finance shed over 4.7 per cent, Power Grid declined 2.61 per cent and Infosys dropped about two and half per cent. Among the top gainers, Sun Pharma rose half a per cent, Bharti Airtel added marginally 0.05 per cent.
In Sectoral indices at the BSE, 20 out of 21 sectors ended in the red. Among the top laggards, Utilities shed 2.37 per cent, Power declined 2.36 per cent and Oil and Gas dropped 2.11 per cent. Except Healthcare rose 0.20 per cent.
The overall market breadth at the BSE was negative as shares of 2,893 companies declined, shares of 1,116 companies advanced, while shares of 145 companies remained unchanged. At the National Stock Exchange, 42 companies hit their 52-week high, while 36 hit their 52-week low.
