Jul 25, 2025
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Maldivian President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu are set to hold high-level talks on Friday afternoon to review and advance the India-Maldives Comprehensive Economic and Maritime Security Partnership. The meeting, taking place in Malé, aims to strengthen cooperation in key areas including infrastructure, healthcare, economic development, and regional maritime security.
The discussions will also assess the progress made under the Joint Vision Document adopted during President Muizzu’s state visit to India in October 2024. Several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) are expected to be signed during the meeting, and Prime Minister Modi will dedicate multiple India-assisted infrastructure and healthcare projects to the people of Maldives.
This visit marks Prime Minister Modi's third official trip to the Maldives, and is notably the first visit by a foreign Head of State during President Muizzu’s tenure. In a special gesture, President Muizzu personally welcomed Prime Minister Modi at Velana International Airport, an act that the Indian leader described as deeply touching.
The Prime Minister was accorded a warm and colorful cultural reception upon his arrival, with enthusiastic participation from Maldivian citizens and members of the Indian diaspora. A traditional Chhau dance performance by Indian children was among the highlights of the welcome ceremony, earning widespread appreciation from those in attendance.
Prime Minister Modi emphasized the significance of the visit, stating that India-Maldives friendship is poised to scale new heights in the coming years. The vibrant reception and high-level diplomatic engagement underscore the commitment of both nations to fostering a stable and prosperous regional partnership.
