Rajib Bhattacharjee accuses Opposition of misinformation over Smart Meters

Rajya Sabha MP and BJP Tripura State President Rajib Bhattacharjee has strongly criticized opposition parties for allegedly misleading the public over the state's smart meter installation project. He made the remarks during a press conference held on Sunday at the BJP’s Krishnanagar party office in Agartala.

Bhattacharjee defended the BJP-led state government's push for smart meters, calling it a necessary step toward modernizing Tripura’s power distribution system. “The introduction of smart meters is aimed at improving transparency, accountability, and efficiency in electricity usage. The opposition is deliberately spreading false narratives to misguide the public and create unnecessary panic,” he said.

He also launched a scathing attack on previous administrations, particularly those led by the CPI(M) and Congress, accusing them of leaving behind a legacy of corruption and violence. “Those who are criticizing us now were responsible for decades of misrule. Under the Left Front’s 25-year regime, Tripura saw rampant corruption, political murders, and a collapse of law and order,” Bhattacharjee alleged.

Without naming former Chief Ministers, the BJP leader accused them of political opportunism and of attempting to derail the state’s progress. “They had their opportunity to work for the people, but failed. Now that the state is finally moving forward, they are trying to sow confusion out of frustration,” he added.

Bhattacharjee urged citizens to reject what he described as the opposition’s “propaganda” and to support the state government's efforts toward development and good governance. He reiterated the BJP's commitment to transparency, infrastructure modernization, and delivering better services to the people of Tripura.
