All measures taken to ensure free and fair poll on June 23: DM West

The state administration has made all necessary arrangements and preparations to ensure free and fair by-elections scheduled to be held on June 23 next for four assembly constituencies of the state, said District Election Officer and DM West Debapriya Bardhan.

The counting of votes will be held on June 26, while the poll campaign of the political parties has ended on Tuesday.

Addressing a press conference, the DM said that a total of 55 polling stations have been set up in 6-Agartala assembly constituency and a total of 51,639 voters will cast their vote for this constituency, whereas a total of 56 polling stations have been set up in 8-Town Baradowali Assembly constituency, where a total of 46,583 voters will cast their vote on June 23.

The voting for the 80 year and above and the Divyangs was already held through postal ballot. In accordance with the guideline of the Election Commission of India, the polling officers and staff had collected the ballots from their home, he told reporters.

Referring to the law and order situation in the two constituencies of 6-Agartala assembly constituency and 8-Town Baradowali Assembly constituency, the DM said that the law and order situation is being monitored regularly. CAPF jawans are patrolling in different places.

Webcasting and Videography would be done in all the polling stations during the polling on June 23. He said, adding that an adequate number of CAPF jawans shall be deployed across the polling stations to ensure free and fair poll and restrict untoward incidents.

He informed that Section 144 has already been issued in these two assembly constituencies from Tuesday 5 PM, which will be enforced till June 24 5 AM.

Meanwhile, the West Tripura District Superintendent of Police J Reddy elaborated on the security arrangements on Tuesday and said that a total of 12 companies of CAPF and state police in addition to the TSR jawans are deployed for the election.
