Independent artist from NE Tripura representing state arts on India Art Festival

A little-known independent artist hailing from the North-East states of Tripura is set to represent the contemporary arts and painting of at least eight teenagers of the state in the India Art festival commencing at Mumbai from May 26 this year.

The founder of Kala Bhawan Art School located at Ranirbazar area of the state in West Tripura district – Nitai Das is a little-known artist from Tripura who has embarked on his journey with contemporary arts and has been taking part in the art festivals across the nation since long.

Selected from his Kala Bhawan Art School, at least eight paintings and artworks of eight teenagers grabbed the opportunity to represent Tripura in the 4-day long India Art Festival, a contemporary art fair commencing from May 26 at Nehru Centre, Dr. A.B. Road, Worli in Mumbai.   

He said, “A total of eight paintings and art works of eight teen artists of Kala Bhawan Art School were selected to exhibit their paintings in the Tripura Pavilion Art Gallery of the India Art Festival.”

The Kala Bhawan, having its branch in Kolkata and headed by Artist Nitai Das had selected the art works of Susmita Debnath, Trisha Dey, Riyash Debbarma, Nandini, Nerisha Debbarma, Piu Dey, Shiropa Bhowmik and Tanisha Das.

Nitai Das, who over the course of his 29 years of employment with Doordarshan has been nurturing the teenagers with his art of making contemporary paintings. Das has been growing his own art practice having had solo shows at the likes of the Jehangir Art Gallery in Mumbai (2009), the Academy of Fine Arts in Kolkata (2010) and the Lalit Kala Akademi in Delhi (2011).
