First in country, Tripura get to access National Scholarship Portal 2.0 for online registration

As the first state in the country, Tripura is allowed to access the National Scholarship Portal 2.0 for online registration of students belonging to Scheduled Castes, said the state SC Welfare minister Bhagaban Das on Thursday.

Addressing a press conference here at the civil secretariat on Thursday the minister said that during the current financial year, students will be able to register themselves for their scholarships through this portal.

He said three centrally sponsored schemes are being implemented through National Scholarship Portal 2.0 including post-metric scholarship, pre-metric scholarship (ninth to tenth class) and pre-metric scholarship (first to tenth class). He said that due to the late opening of the portal, many students could not apply online in time and were deprived of the opportunity.

Considering that aspect, this measure has been taken for the convenience of the students belonging to Scheduled Castes. In other years this portal was open for only three months, this year this portal will be open for one year i.e. till March 2023. As a result, students will have a lot of opportunities to fill out online forms. The minister that no student would be deprived of the benefits of this measure.

A large section of people in the state are engaged as sweeper. The son and daughters of those sweepers cutting across the castes are also to be brought under the benefit of pre-metric scholarships (first to tenth class) now, the minister said.

He further said that the amount of pre-matric scholarship has been increased for the students studying in the ninth and tenth classes of the Scheduled Caste community. Pre-metric scholarships for day school students, ie those who go to school from home, were Rs 2,250 per annum in 2016-17 and 2017-18 financial year. This year i.e. in 2022-23 financial year this amount has been increased to 3500 rupees annually.

The pre-metric scholarship for hostel students has been increased from Rs. 5,250 per annum to Rs. 6,000 per annum. He further said that the amount of pre-metric scholarships of the children of the sweepers who are studying from Class 1 to Class 10 have also been increased.
