Role of women in development of North-East: Jishnu inaugurates North East festival celebration

The Deputy Chief Minister of Tripura Jishu Dev Verma inaugurated the celebration of North-East festival as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav here at Agartala Rabindra Bhawan on Sunday and said that the view of women should be prioritized in decision making for the development of the country.

Addressing the programme Jishnu said, “Since after the Modi government has come to power at the Centre the once neglected since after the partition the North-East region of the country was prioritized. The situation in the north-eastern states began to change rapidly after Narendra Modi took over as Prime Minister.”

“The region has at one time suffered due to separatist activities and the women of this region have suffered the most,” Jishnu Said, adding that the state government is working on various schemes for the empowerment of women in the state.

He said that the women are now able to participate in decision making. Women's self-help groups are being formed to make women financially self-sufficient.”

At present, there are 33,926 women-run self-help groups in the state. Aiming to empower the women of this state, the government had introduced 33% reservation for women in government jobs, the deputy Chief minister said.

Meanwhile, participating in the programme on Sunday the Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Pratima Bhoumik said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi is working for the development, empowerment and protection of the rights of women in India. The Northeast has been moving in a new direction since he took office.”
