Biggest ever Indian contingent of 127 athletes participating in Tokyo Olympic and Govt has provided end to end support to them: Anurag Thakur

Sports Minister Anurag Singh Thakur has said that biggest ever Indian contingent of 127 athletes are participating in the Tokyo Olympic beginning today and the Government has provided end to end support to them. Participating an event in New Delhi to cheer the athletes ahead of the opening ceremony of Tokyo Olympics, Mr Thakur said, all participating players were vaccinated on priority. He said, under the Target Olympic Podium Scheme, TOPS, the players were given best coaching and best exposure. The Minister said, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to several participating athletes and their families to encourage them.

Mr Thakur said, during this pandemic time, it was difficult for sports federations, organisations and State Government to organize events. Even, the players were under severe pressure.

He said, initiatives like TOPS, Khelo India programmes, Khelo India Youth Games, Khelo India University Games are creating environment and motivate people for a bright career in sports. The Minister said, Government is committed to provide quality infrastructure and coaching. He said, Sports is State Subject and States have an important role in it.
