Online application Web Portal launched to assist economically deprived meritorious students in Tripura

The state Tribal Welfare Minister Mevar Kumar Jamatia on Saturday launched an online application web portal to provide a financial assistance to the economically deprived meritorious students belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Castes, other backward classes and minorities.

Under the assistance scheme a one-time financial support of Rs. 1 lakh shall be provided with the students for higher education and vocational education in government recognized institutes.

To facilitate the students with the financial assistance the tribal welfare department on Saturday launched the web portal – twscholarship.com linked the official website of the department for inviting applications.

“This financial assistance will be given in two stages – Rs. 50,000 after admission in the educational institution approved by the state government and the remaining Rs. 50,000 after getting the first year pass certificate,” said tribal welfare minister Mevar Kumar Jamatia.

He further added informing that students need to apply online accessing the web portal in between July 20 and August 15 of this year.

“One-time financial assistance will be provided for the study of a total of 18 different subjects including technical, agriculture, fisheries, law. The government has taken this decision so that the students in this section are not deprived of the opportunity to pursue higher education or vocational education due to lack of funds,” he said.

He said, “The new assistance will be provided to poor meritorious students from SC, SC, other backward classes and minorities who will get 50 per cent marks in Secondary and Higher Secondary Examinations.”

The web portal is launched today at the official residence of the Minister for Tribal Welfare and was attended by LT Darlong, Director, Department of Tribal Welfare.
