To give more transparency in the payment of wages in MGNREGA and remove the allegations of delay in payment of workers across the state, the Tripura government has now decided to compensate the workers under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, 2005 (MGNREGA) in the state for delays in payments of their wages.

Taking to social media, Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb said, “Government will recover the compensation from the salary of the concerned employee or officer responsible for the delay.”

“If the wages are not paid within 15 days, the workers will be paid interest at the rate of 0.05 per cent daily on the total wages from the 16th day as compensation. The government will recover the compensation money from the workers or officials for whom there would be a delay in payment of wages,” Deb said.

He also said that the state government has decided to computerize the measurement of work, master roll, and list of wages. The district program coordinator or program officer will be responsible for implementing the computerized system.
