Scientist Dr, Pawan K Kaushik – innovator of bamboo water bottle in Tripura succumbs to COVID-19

A renowned scientist who innovated bamboo made water bottle in Tripura working in the bamboo sector and Director of Forest Research Center for Livelihood Extension (FRCLE) Dr. Pawan K. Kaushik on Monday evening succumbed to the deadly COVID-19 virus here at a private hospital.

Dr. Kaushik was 52 years old and left behind his aged parents, a wife, a son and a daughter. Resident of Madhya Pradesh Dr. Kaushik was working in Tripura for the last 15 years and made remarkable changes in bamboo-based industries and livelihood especially in the tribal areas of the state.

In 2016, he created a water bottle made of bamboo which was his brainchild. The bottle also caught the attention of Bollywood superstar Raveena Tandon when Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Dev promoted the production of the Green Rehabilitation Initiative last year.

He had gone to his hometown to meet his Covid-affected parents two weeks ago, after which he too got infected with the virus. He was admitted to the Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) for treatment. He was discharged from the hospital after his report was negative. He was admitted to a private hospital here three days ago with fever, shortness of breath and other problems.
