The ruling BJP party MLA Ashish Kumar Saha wrote to the state Chief Secretary and wanted his intervention to look into the irregularities of procurement bid ration materials under Chief Minister’s Special Covid Relief Package. The MLA alleged of squandering of public funds in the package scheme launched by the Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb recently.

He alleged that the government has awarded the procurement order of various essential commodities to State Cooperative Marketing Federation Ltd (MARKFED) at higher price than the wholesale market without tender, which will be distributed among the poor people badly affected due to the pandemic situation.

The government has sanctioned Rs 63 Cr for providing a dry ration of seven lakh families in eight districts. Violating rules, the revenue department instead of inviting competitive bidding, awarded the responsibilities to MARKFED to supply Mustard Oil, Masoor Dal, Soyabean, Onion and spices despite knowing the fact that the offered prices were much higher than wholesale rate, Saha alleged.

He said that this resulted the state government incurring a loss of over Rs 11.23 Cr. Saha further alleged being a government organisation the MARKFED should not be involved with any corruption in purchasing bulk quantities of essential commodities for the poor people  and demanded high level inquiry into the matter.
