In yet another attack upon the opposition CPI(M) delegation including ex-chief minister also currently the leader of opposition – Manik Sarkar and former minister also senior party leader Badal Chowdhury of the then Left front government in Tripura has narrowly escaped from serious injuries in South Tripura district. The incident took place on Monday at Santirbazar area after the party delegation who were om their way to attend a party programme were attacked by miscreants allegedly of ruling BJP party. “While we were on our way towards Santirbazar area to attend a scheduled party programme which was also acknowledged to the DGP accordingly I including former minister Badal Chowdhury and other senior party leaders were brutally attacked by BJP hooligans,” alleged Manik Sarkar.

He said, “We were physically attacked and prevented from visiting the houses of some party leaders and cadres and supporters who were subjected to attacks earlier.” Briefing the incident Mr. Sarkar told media, “We faced an aggressive protest by some locals of some minor section of the BJP party who later started pelting stones, lathis and eggs on us where the police escorting us succumbed to minor injuries.” “BJP govt in the state has lost credibility and is using such tactics to stop the opposition from talking to the deprived people of the state,” Sarkar said. He said, “It is very unfortunate that despite the scheduled party programme and our visit today was intimated to the DGP in police headquarter no necessary arrangements were made to ensure security to us.”

“This is very clear that the attack on us was pre-panned with a negligence role of the police. The police headquarter has intentionally made no such arrangements to ensure safety and security to our party delegation,” he said. He however said that the BJP showing its true character and colour is not allowing any democratic activity of the opposition in Tripura. This is unacceptable and will be resisted and rebuffed.
