BJP MLA Sudip Roy Barman demands arrest of ‘hooligans’ over attack upon ex-CM Manik Sarkar

Soon after the attack upon the ex-chief minister of Tripura – Manik Sarkar and CPI(M) delegation including former minister of the then Left front government – Badal Chowdhury is reported from South Tripura on Monday, the ruling BJP party MLA Sudip Roy Barman has condemned the incident and said, “I strongly condemn and demand the arrest of the hooligans.”

Mr. Barman who was also the former health minister of the ruling BJP led coalition government took on to his social media handle and stated, “Politics is at its all-time low in Tripura. Shocked to hear the attack upon Leader of Opposition and other leaders in Shantirbazar. I strongly condemn and demand the arrest of the hooligans.”

Meanwhile, the chairman of the newly emerged TIPRA Motha – regional party in Tripura which swept the recently held election to TTAADC and also the state’s royal scion Maharaja Pradyot Kishore Deb Burman condemning the incident took on to his social media handle and stated, “Any violence against anyone has to be condemned and after seeing the images of what happened to Manik Sarkar today, all right thing people should condemn this.”

“I am not a supporter of Communists policy and the culture of violence that they introduced to our state and elsewhere. Today the Communist are gone but this culture has remained with us,” Pradyot’s statement reads. He further stated, “Action when not taken against criminals embolden them - the same happened when no one was arrested after I was attacked in SDM office before the TTAADC elections. Appeal to all to end this culture of political violence.” The incident took place on Monday at Santirbazar area after the CPI(M) party delegation including ex-CM Manik Sarkar and former minister Badal Chowdhury who were on their way to attend a party programme were attacked by miscreants allegedly of ruling BJP party.
