Rabindra Jayanti celebrated in Tripura

Amid the nationwide battle against the COVID-19 the celebrations of the 160th birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore on sunday was very modest in Tripura and other northeastern States. Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb paid floral tribute to Rabindranath Tagore at Agartala Rabindra Bhawan and appealed to the people of the state to follow covid guidelines.

Unlike previous years there was no major celebration as no gathering was allowed by the government due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday paid tributes to Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore on his 160th birth anniversary.

Tagore was a playwright, philosopher, composer and poet. He had won the Nobel prize for literature. Rabindra Jayanti is an annually celebrated cultural festival, prevalent among Tagorephiles (people who love Tagore and his works) around the world, in the remembrance of Rabindranath Tagore's birthday anniversary. It is celebrated in early May, on the 25th day of the Bengali month of Boishakh, since Tagore was born on this day of the year 1268 (1861 AD) of the Bengali calendar.
