To contain the surging cases of deadly second wave of Coronavirus across the state, the Tripura government has extended the existing COVID night curfew timings by four hours and would be in effect from May 4 between 6 PM to the next day 5 AM. State law minister Ratan Lal Nath on Sunday evening announced this and said, "The decision to extend the curfew timings is taken in view of the surging cases of Coronavirus. The night curfew with the extended timings shall be in force from Tuesday in all the urban local bodies of the state."

Meanwhile, Mr. Nath told media, "Government offices shall remain functional from 10 AM to 4 PM on all working days with 50% attendence and presence of gazetted officers from Tuesday onwards." However, the notification in regard to the extension of the curfew timings shall be issued on Monday. Government has earlier extended the night curfew in the state till May 31 which was enforced from April 21 this year. It sounded an alert after the double mutant strain of coronavirus and those of Britain and African variants were found in the state.
