CM directs police to contain post-poll violence

With a new phenomenon of political violence has emerged in Tripura with series of incidents of political hostility registered after the declarations of results of elections to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb has directed the police of strict-hand against the culprits. "I have directed the police to arrest culprits irrespective of their political affiliations to restore peace and tranquility," Deb said.

"We cannot allow anyone to take the law into their hands. Culprits belonging to any party will be punished for their misdeeds," Deb, who also holds the Home portfolio, Deb said. Deb who also holds the home port folio said that the administration has made an assessment of the damages to the properties in the violence and will compensate the owners.

Soon after the declaration of the result of ADC poll where the newly floated TIPRA Motha led by royal scion Pradyot Kishore Deb Burman has secured landslide victory defeating the ruling BJP-IPFT party, series of violence are reported from different parts of the ADC in the state.

The BJP has accused newly floated TIPRA led by royal scion Pradyot Kishore Deb Barman of letting loose a reign of terror on saffron party workers after sweeping the recently concluded elections. Meanwhile, after the declaration of the poll result Pradyot on April 10 last took on to his social media handle and appealed his party workers to stay away from violence.
