In a major blow to the Indigenous People's Front of Tripura (IPFT) - an alliance partner of the ruling BJP, The Indigenous Progressive Regional Alliance (TIPRA) Motha led by former Congress leader and Tripura royal scion Pradyot Manikya Deb Burman has swept the crucial elections to Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) leading in 18 of the 28 seats. The BJP and its ally lead in seven.

TIPRA has won 16 seats out of 23 they had contested while its ally, Indigenous Nationalist Party of Twipra (INPT) won 18 seats. This perhaps has given a shock defeat to the ruling BJP party and its alliance partner IPFT in this Tribal Council poll. Out of the total 28 seats, the BJP has won 9 seats out of 14 seats, they had contested while its ally IPFT failed to win any seat.

The Left Front contested in 28 seats but failed to win any seat.TIPRA is headed by Pradyot, who resigned as chief of the Congress state unit in September over differences with party's handling of the citizenship law protests. However, Pradyot today called for a peaceful victory rally in ADC on April 12 and  appealed to his party workers and supporters to stay away from violence attacks upon the opposition parties. The tribal council election was scheduled to be held on May 17 last year, but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
