At a time when the council of ministers in Tripura has proposed the governor Ramesh Bais to dissolve the executive committee of the Tripura Tribal Area Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) on the expiry of it’s tenure on May 17 next, the IPFT an ally to the BJP government in the state recently met the Governor Ramesh Bais and demanded tribal welfare minister Mevar Kumar Jamatia be appointed as ADC In-charge. The election for a new council has been postponed due to Covid pandemic.

A group of IPFT party today placed a memorandum with the governor and sought his intervention in appointing Mr. Jamatia as the ADC in-charge.IPFT spokesperson Mangal Debbarma told media, “We want the retired officers of Tripura government be appointed as the administrator of TTAADC and on the other we demanded he Governor to appoint Minister Mevar Kumar Jamatia be appointed as the ADC in-charge as the tenure of ADC is coming to an end after May 17.”

However, the governor in consultation with the state government would run the administration through administrator. According to powers and functions under the provision of the sixth schedule of the constitution the concerned governor could hold power initially for six months unless it is extended with a second-order or orders. All orders issued by him have to be ratified by the state assembly.
