Worried of the ongoing Coronavirus threat to the mankind across the globe and especially with the worsening situation in Bangladesh bordering to Tripura which also witnessed a spike in Corona positive cases, the locals of South Tripura district Monday opposed resumption of trade at Muhurighat Integrated Check Post (ICP). Huge contingent of Police, TSRs and army were put into action to clear the deck from protest staged along the border today.

The locals who staged the protest over an hour along the ICP viewed that resumption of export and import with the neighbouring Bangladesh in this pandemic situation may risk lives of many in the district. They however halted movement of trucks from Bangladesh to Tripura and vice-versa by barricading the entry point.

Meantime, in view of the thick population in Muhurigat of Belonia the locals also felt that with this area very near to Bangladesh’ Corona infected zone like Feni, Comilla and Brahmanbaria district, this resumption of trade at this moment may put a major threat to the mankind at the area in Indian territory through the truck drivers of both the nation.

They later demanded to shutdown the traing with Bangladesh. However, BJP MLA Arun Chandra Bhaumik who along with the administrative officials rushed to the spot ruled out the demand of locals and allowed the stranded trucks carrying cement from Bangladesh in the Indian territory. Tripura has already witnessed a spike in Corona positive patients mostly among the Border Security Force (BSF) jawans and family in Dhalai district.
