Tripura govt. to transport Pineapples, scented Lemons to Kolkata, Delhi soon amid COVID-19 lockdown

Amid the Coronavirus lockdown, the Tripura government has decided to transport horticulture produced perishable items like pineapples and scented lemons to the Kolkata and Delhi in view of its high demand.“The cabinet today approved pilot project for transportation support of horticulture produced particularly perishable pineapples and scented lemons from Agartala to Kolkata and Delhi through railway refrigerated parcel vans once in a week for 10 weeks,” said state cabinet minister Ratan Lal Nath on Thursday evening.

Briefing the cabinet decision here at the civil secretariat today Mr. Nath said, “The cabinet has decided to transport pineapples and scented lemons to Kolkata and Delhi through Kanchanjunga Express and Tripurasundari Express in its refrigerated parcel coaches.”

“To carry 17 Metric Tonnes (MTs) of goods it will cost Rs. 1,08,233 in Kanchanjunga Express to Kolkata’s Sealdah station and Rs. 1,46,000 in Tripurasundari Express train to Anand-Vihar Delhi,” adding to this Mr. Nath said, “We have discussed the matter with the North-East Frontier Railway (NFR) authorities and we sought the parcel vans as rent for the transportation.” He said that Tripura government will call a tender for service provider in regard to the transportation of those perishable items.
