Congress V/s Subal: Pijush warns of disciplinary action against 'impermissible' press conference

Former BJP MLA and currently the congress leader Subal Bhowmik’s press conference which sheltered one Arindam Bhattacharjee in the name of party’s IT Cell Chief over his arrest recently has sparked off controversy after the Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) on Sunday issued a warning to the party workers of disciplinary action against impermissible press conference and anti-party activities.

TPCC working president Pijush Kanti Biswas on Sunday denied Arindam Bhattacharjee’s link with the congress party. He said, “Mr. Bhattacharjee who was named as the congress IT cell chief and arrested for his discriminatory post in social media have no link with the TPCC.” He said, “A section party workers from the low level to the upper level are trying to hatch conspiracy against the congress party and defame the party having direct link with the ruling BJP party.”

Addressing a press conference here at Agartala Congress Bhawan today, Mr. Biswas said, “Some party leaders are calling press conferences without taking the prior approval from the TPCC President which is against the police of the party.” He said, “It has been learnt that some congress workers have joined and walked on the January 3rd rally lead by BJP MLA Sudip Roy Barman here at Agartala.”

“The TPCC shall not tolerate this from now and so we decided to constitute disciplinary action committee to be chaired by Congress spokes person Harekrishna Bhowmik,” adding to this Mr. Biswas said, “No PCC leaders or workers are allowed to hold press conferences or any other activities without prior approval from the PCC President.”

However, Congress leader Subal Bhowmik on January 10 held a press conference in support of the so called party’s IT Cell Chief Arindam Bhattacharjee who was arrested recently on charge of making derogatory remarks against the ruling BJP government at the centre. This perhaps has fumed the PCC working president Pijush Kanti Biswas and group who today warned Mr. Bhowmik of disciplinary action in future.
