Tripura police warns of legal action against rumour-mongers in Tripura

Tripura Police on Tuesday warned rumour-mongers of strict action against spreading fake news on social media over novel coronavirus, Superintendent of Police of West Tripura district Manik Das said.

“We are closely monitoring the fake news items and rumours over COVID-19 in social media especially,” adding to this Mr. Das said, “Stern action shall be taken against the rumour mongers who creates panic by their fake posts in social media.”

He also said, “It has come to our notice that a section of people are mongering rumours and posting false information over the global outbreak of Coronavirus. Accordingly we have started our action against such activities which is creating panic across the state.”

Meantime, in context of West Tripura District the officer said, “All establishments except the essential services will remain closed during the entire lockdown period. Nobody should come out from their home until it is very essential or extreme emergency.” “Strict action will be taken against the violators of ongoing state-wide lockdown,” adding to this he appealed the people of this state to maintain social distancing.
