As ECI removes West RO, CPI-M demands revoking East RO's transfer

The opposition communist party in Tripura today welcomed the decision of Election Commission of India (ECI) of removing the Returning Officer (RO) of the West Parliamentary Constituency also the DM West Dr. Sandeep Mahatme from election duty. The ECI today in a letter to the state election commission undersigned by the Secretary, ECI Arvind Anand directed, “Dr. Sandeep Mahatme be relived and shall not be given any election related posting.” The letter also stated, “Mr. Vikas Singh, IAS to join as DM/DEO, Tripura West immediately today itself.”

The ECI however in its letter directed the Tripura government to send a panel for posting DM/DEO, Dhalai by today itself. “The CPI-M earlier demanded the ECI to remove Sandeep Mahatme as RO for this Lok Sabha election in view of assumption of poll irregularities and it did happened this election in West Seat,” adding to this Left front convenor Bijan Dhar said, “Beside, we also demand the ECI to revoke its decision of transferring the DEO, Dhalai Vikas Singh from his current duty as the polling in East seat finds no major irregularities compared to the West parliamentary constituency.”

Meantime, the Left candidate for the East Tripura constituency Jitendra Choudhury in his letter to the ECI demanded the same and said, “The RO, Dhalai Vikas Singh, under the guidance of Election commission of India had ensured the conduct of a largely free and fare poll where an overwhelming majority of the voters in East could exercise their franchise.” He stated, “I urge upon the ECI to revoke the decision and allow continuation of Vikas Singhas the RO for the sake of succesfull completion of electyion process including the counting as scheduled to be held on May 23.”
